Dr. Robert L. Smith is a psychotherapist and 28 year veteran the fire service. He is a lieutenant with the Indianapolis Fire Department. He is a station officer and clinical director of the department's Stress Management Unit. Dr. Smith is also an adjunct profesor at Marian College in Indianapolis. He has published nuerous articles and consults with fire departments on issues relating to stress management, leadership and behavioral issues. Dr. Smith is married to Leesa Freeland Smith who is also a psychotherapist. The Smiths have three children: Robert, Vincent & Maria.

Dr. Smith holds a liscense to practice Marriage and family Therapy in the State of Indiana. In addition, he holds an Indiana Mental Health Counselor's License. Dr. Smith holds a doctorate in psycholoy from North Central University, a Masters degree in Marriage and Famiy Therapy from The Christian Theological Seminary (A graduate program that is accredited by the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists AAMFT) and a bachelor's degree in psychology/liberal arts from Marian College. Dr. Smith is a Clinical Member of the American Association of marriage and Famiy Therapists and the American Association of Mental Health Counselors. He is also Board Certified in Trauma Response by the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress (AAETS). He completed a two year internship at the Counseling Clinic at the Christian Tehological Seminary and a two year internship through the St. Vincent Hospital Stress Center Employee Assistance Program. Dr. Smiths areas of specilization include: public safety and military personnel, marital and family therapy, cognitive behavioral therapies, stress management, traumatic stress and abuse issues. He has been trained in short term interventions, object relations based therapies, family systems contextual therapy, stress manaement interventions and critical incident stress management. Dr. Smith has been a psychotherapist in private practice and an educator for over 10 years.
