A former member of I.A.F.F. (International Association of Fire Fighters) in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Shannon left the fire service as an acting Lt/Senior Fire Fighter/Nozzelman after serving for 26 years on the front lines.

Shannon Holds a Military Engineer degree from the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering and is a retired Warrant Officer having served in the land component of the Canadian Forces with a background in communications as well as being an Infantry Assault Pioneer.

His career path led him to the Calgary Fire Department in 1975, completing his rookie school in 1976. He was assigned to the Line Fire Company operations from 1976 to Feburary of 2000.

He was N.F.P.A. certified level 1500 and has taken many related courses in his fire fighting career including: Heavy Rescue, Pump Engineer, Ladder Co. Operations, Hazardous Materials, First Responder, High Angle Rescue, and Public Relations.

His service, alongside his daily duties while on and off shift with the department, included participation with the Calgary Fire Department Honor Guard from 1976 until leaving the department in 2002. He served as elected president of the unit for two consecutive terms being elected by his peers.

He is a past member of the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation, The American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress and is currently Senior Chief with N.A.F.F.V.N. (North American Fire Fighter Veterans Network) serving as one of the 7 founding members of the veterans organization. He is a firefighter veteran with diagnosed P.T.S.D. and is on disability pension for the disorder. He also runs the N.A.F.F.V.N. website located on the world wide web at: http://www.firefighterveteran.com. He is a keen advocate of firefighter veteran rights and has earned medals (Canadian Fire Service E.S.M./L.O.F. E.S.M.).

Shannon celebrates life with his life partner Susan and her two adult children along with a recent addition of a grandchild. He has a dog named Mr. Kobe and a cat named Kit Kat and enjoys the outdoors with "bushwalking" and sailing as keen interests.
